Dresser-drawers and toddlers: A dangerous combination

A recent recall of millions of popular dressers sold by Ikea highlights the ever-present danger of dresser-drawers. Late last year, the largest furniture store in the world settled a lawsuit with the families of three toddlers who were fatally injured when Malm dressers tipped over on them.

What is a human life worth?

The idea behind compensation for personal injuries or a wrongful death is that money can somehow make up for the pain and loss suffered by victims and their families. It might seem crass to suggest that a parent who has lost a child or a wife who has lost her husband can be made whole by money. The truth is that no amount of money can make up for losing a loved one, but it is the best that can be done to help victims and their families through a tragedy. Once that premise is accepted, the goal is to find the proper amount of money to award someone whose loss was the result of negligence. In other words, how much is the life lost worth, in the eyes of the law?

The Preventive Role of a Lawyer

When many people hear the words "personal injury lawyer", they immediately think of attorneys who help represent clients who have been injured in motor vehicle accidents, in the workplace or by malfunctioning products.

Evidence pointing to the long-term effects of concussions has resulted in more attention being paid to athletes, especially younger middle school and high school athletes. These new guideline will replace the outdated ones put together 16 years ago.

Clergy Sex Abuse Victims Seek International Court Assistance

According to a study commissioned by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), 10,667 people have made allegations of sexual abuse against Catholic priests and deacons for incidents that occurred between 1950 and 2004. Sexual abuse can leave lingering scars, and a number of clergy abuse victims are angered that Catholic Church leaders have not done more to address the issue of clergy sex abuse. Some victims asked for the international community to intervene in the matter. Some notable incidents of clergy sexual abuse in Iowa demonstrate why abuse victims are asking for international support.
