Des Moines woman injured in hit-and-run crash

When an accident occurs, those involved are often greatly impacted. Dealing with the event and the injuries and damages it caused could create a complex situation for everyone involved. In some cases, an automobile collision could cause panic and stress, leading to some drivers fleeing the scene. When a hit-and-run crash occurs, those injured by a fleeing driver should understand their rights and options.

Iowa authorities were recently dispatched to a hit-and-run accident in Des Moines. According to preliminary reports, a 49-year-old was injured in an intersection accident. Immediately following the collision, the driver fled the scene.

The injured woman was transported to the hospital for medical treatment and was listed in critical condition. During the investigation of this collision, a 19-year-old called the police department and admitted his involvement in the accident. Authorities believe that neither speed nor intoxication were factors in the accident. The young driver has not been charged at this time and authorities stated that they are waiting to speak with the victim before moving forward with charges against the driver.

A car accident victim could suffer tremendously in a collision. When a driver flees the scene, it makes it difficult to hold the party at fault accountable for the resulting losses and damages. The investigation process is often critical in these types of accident. Once investigators have located a fleeing driver and determined cause, they could assign liability. An injured victim could pursue a personal injury suit against the driver at fault.

In general, car accident could greatly affect a victim's life. But when a hit-and-run accident occurs, victims of the collision might deal with additional hardships. Not knowing who was at fault can make it difficult to cope with the incident and hold a liable party accountable. When a hit-and-run occurs, it is important that victims understand their legal remedies and how they can better their situation.
