Driver fails to stop and hits Iowa man on motorcycle

Traffic signs and signals are posted to help protect drivers and passengers on the roadways. If a driver fails to obey a sign, this could result in a collision. Whether it's a stop sign, stoplight or yielding to oncoming traffic, a driver could be found negligent if they fail to obey traffic laws. This could also lead to criminal penalties and civil liability for the driver at fault.

A driver was recently charged following a motorcycle accident. Authorities in Mason City, which is about 120 miles north of the Des Moines area, were dispatched to the scene of the accident that occurred at an intersection at around 2:15 p.m. According to reports, the 27-year-old motorcyclist was traveling westbound when a vehicle struck him.

The 33-year-old car driver was driving southbound on the other road when she attempted to turn east at the intersection. The driver pulled into the intersection and crashed into the motorcyclist, which resulted in the motorcyclist suffering injuries. He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the vehicle was cited for failing to obey a stop sign.

In addition to receiving this citation, the driver could face civil suits. The injured motorcyclist could file a personal injury claim in order to recover compensation for the injuries that he suffered and damages he endured. Following a serious collision, the biker could have numerous medical bills, rehabilitation and even lost wages. The monetary ward could help reduce or alleviate these financial burdens.

When a driver fails to uphold their duty of care while behind the wheel, they could cause a serious accident. Those affected by their negligence could have to face financial hardships, which could seriously affect their ability to recover and move past the incident. Seeking advice about their options could help victims with these issues and determine whether they have a legal cause of action.
