Teen dies in fatal truck crash in northwest Iowa

Drivers in Iowa understand that accidents could happen suddenly and could end tragically. Young or old, unsuspecting drivers and passengers could become a victim. When an individual is involved in a serious automobile collision, it usually occurs when a driver fails to uphold the standard duty of care while that driver is behind the wheel. Distracted or negligent drivers could seriously injury or even kill others on the roadways.

Authorities in Spencer, Iowa were recently called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash. Iowa police officers reported that the accident occurred around 5:00 p.m. when an 18-year-old driver attempted to make a turn. During this attempt, her vehicle was struck by a semitrailer. Emergency crewmembers at the scene pronounced the young driver dead at the scene.

Three others were injured in the fatal truck crash. The two passengers in the automobile and the driver of the truck were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The fatal accident is still under investigation and the cause is not yet determines. Once completed, authorities should be able the establish cause and assign liability.

When a negligent driver causes a fatal collision, they could be liable for the resulting deaths, injuries and damages. A civil suit could be filed in the form of a wrongful death claim or personal injury suit. This could help the injured party or the loved ones of the deceased to recover compensation. The monetary award could be used to cover associated costs such as medical bills, funeral costs, lost wages and pain and suffering.

The loss of a loved one in a sudden and tragic accident could be life altering. Establishing options will help family members take appropriate measures and help them determine if they have a cause of action. Compensation could help them alleviate financial hardships while also helping them cope with their loss.
