Automobile-motorcycle crash in Iowa kills one and injures two

As the weather continues to warm up, residents in Ohio notice more and more motorcycles on the roadway. Whether it is being used as a primary vehicle, for enjoyment or for long distance travel, motorcycles utilize various types of roads. These small vehicles could go unnoticed if a driver fails to observe their surroundings. Checking blind spots, mirrors and oncoming traffic is crucial, and when a driver is negligent or distracted, they could cause a motorcycle accident.

Following an automobile-motorcycle collision, authorities in Iowa were dispatched to the accident site. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Wiley Boulevard and 31st Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids. According to reports, the car collided with the motorcycle.

Emergency crews transported the motorcycle driver and his passenger for medical treatment. The driver died later at the hospital while the 51-year-old female passenger remains hospitalized with serious injuries. It was reported that the passenger of the automobile suffered non-life threatening injuries while the driver was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation and no citations have been issued at this time. Once complete, investigators should be able to establish cause. This could lead to criminal and civil liabilities for the driver at fault. A personal injury suit or wrongful death claim could be filed and compensation could be awarded to the injured party or the loved ones of the deceased.

A serious or fatal motorcycle crash could significantly affect those involved as well as their loved ones. A motorcycle accident often ends tragically due to the small size of the vehicle and the limited amount of safety features. They simply cannot stand up to the impact of a larger vehicle. A person affected by a negligent driver in a motorcycle crash should understand their rights and options so that they can determine whether they have a cause of action to obtain compensation.
