Woman struck and injured while delivering newspapers in Iowa

Whether it is a major road, residential area or rural roadway, vehicles are seen and utilized on various types of roads in Iowa. Furthermore, while some drivers are using their vehicles to get to and from work, some drivers drive as their job. With that fact, some drivers travel long distance to make a shipment or delivery while some will make frequent stops throughout the day. No matter the length of their trip or how many stops they need to make, remaining behind the wheel all day for work could put the driver at risk several times each day. This is due to various factors such as traffic, road conditions, negligent driver and driver fatigue.

Authorities in Springville recently responded to a two-vehicle crash that resulted in one person being injured. According to preliminary reports, the collision occurred around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Springville Road and County Home Road. At the time of the crash a 63-year-old woman was delivering newspapers.

While heading southbound on Springville Road, the woman drove her vehicle to the east shoulder of the roadway. This was done in order to deliver a newspaper. After making this maneuver, a driver traveling northbound on the roadway attempted to go around the woman's vehicle. This resulted in the vehicle not only striking the pulled over vehicle but also the woman who exited the vehicle in order to complete the newspaper delivery.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of the accident. The struck woman was transported to the hospital for the injuries she suffered in the accident. The other driver was not injured in the crash.

The accident is still under investigation but authorities stated that charges are pending. When a driver is not adequately paying attention or does not maneuver their vehicle safely by slowing down and signaling, they could cause an accident. That driver could be liable for the resulting injuries and damages. Moreover, the driver could endure criminal and civil penalties.

A person injured in an accident could file a personal injury claim in order to recover compensation. The monetary award could be used to cover medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages and damages.

Following an accident, it is important to record all information and have investigation properly and fully conducted. Those injured or affected should understand their situation and whether a cause of action is available.
