Two-vehicle crash in Iowa kills one and sends another to hospital

Although incidents can occur at anytime and for any reason, Iowa drivers are aware that heavy traffic also means a higher chance of collisions. A car accident could result when a driver is not properly paying attention, speeding or following too close to the car in front of them. Although some drivers are able to evade crashes, these habits are dangerous and could seriously injure or kill others traveling on the road.

The Iowa State Patrol recently responded to a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Guthrie County around 5:30 p.m. The fatal crash involved an automobile and a pickup truck. According to preliminary reports, the automobile was traveling west on Highway 141 when it collided with a guardrail. The vehicle then veered across the centerline of the road and struck a pickup truck.

Emergency crews arrived to the scene and pronounced the driver of the automobile dead at the scene. They also noted that the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the pickup was trapped inside his vehicle. The 60-year-old man was extricated from his vehicle and transported to the hospital via helicopter. His current conditions were not reported.

When a person is injured in an accident, they could file a claim for their injuries and damages. Following an investigation, officers will be able to determine cause and liability. When a driver is at fault, those affected could file a claim against the driver or his or her estate if the driver did not survive the crash. This could result in compensation to help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, lost wages and pain and suffering.

Those affected by a negligent driver or are suffering physical and financial pain after an automobile collision should seek to better understand their situation. Knowing their rights and options will assist them in the decision-making process, especially if they are considering a personal injury suit.
